Idete Intellectually Impairment unit deals with the mentally impaired children. The project is still existing and progressing. New pupils are being enrolled each year. The parents and community are very happy to get this project. Their children can attend to school, which was not possible in the previous time. Through this project‘s seminars and campaigns negative attitudes have been minimized towards the mentally impaired persons. The children have a lot of opportunities to learn various skills are very helpfully to their lives. The local government has accepted and provided ground for constructing the buildings of the project.

I have currently 11 pupils, 9 boys and 2 girls.

I still manage the class and the education although I am at Bethlehem Center. Three/four times a month I go there for Home Community Based Rehabilitation in order to help parents how to care their children at home and to give the instruction volunteers who teach the children according to my program. Miss Kalumbeta a kindergarten teacher of Idete helps to teach my children. In case of problem Agapit Mbenjela calls me for solution. He also sometimes makes home-visits to educate parents about caring their mentally impaired children. I plan the class and any other educational events.

      The children are taught:
  • daily living activities
